Self Portrait Update

Yesterday I finally finished my self portrait that I was working on. When it was right in front of me, it looked fine, but after I left to go get a glass of green tea, I came back horrified! The face is very disproportional and the eyes are WAY too big! My face even looks a little skeletal like... I didn't really feel like fixing it, so this is what it is. The photograph is WAY better.
Maybe this is a good thing that I'm probably not going to do the drawing portfolio! XD

I also have been working on the cover of my sketchbook. Just have to do one more layer of decoupage and it should be finished. :)

So I got a plan...

What's up everyone? So, I'm going to try to make a weekly post every Friday about how I have improved and stuff. (let's see how long this lasts...)

So, I have many photographs that I want to try to redraw that I took from Italy, but I just really haven't found the time to do so. I'm going to try to make myself a schedule to make sure that I have time to sketch. I just feel very disorganized at the moment... e_e
I did have a chance to sketch some photographs that I took earlier this year.
They're not that great, but what the heck! I tried.

Sometime yesterday, I decided to try to do a self portrait, but I only had the chance to start it. Here is my reference image and what I got so far. It isn't much, but keep checking for updates to see the finished product. :)

Also, I have been seeing many interesting textures lately and they have inspired me to want to do some collaging. Maybe something monotone or ombra or abstract. With a bunch of little pieces.....
Oh god! What am I getting myself into?! Why do I always do this to myself? :P

Home!

I have finally returned home! You don't know how nice it is to actually be able to sleep in your own bed, have toilets that actually are the correct size and have toilet seats, and have showers that are a normal size! ^.^

As you may have noticed from my lack of posting, I have been away from the internet for a while. I was actually in Italy for a week, which was AMAZING!!! \(^o^)/

I didn't have time to do any art while I was away because our tour guide, Elizabeth, kept us on a tight schedule of visiting amazing places! Even though I haven't been making art in the past week, I truly have been inspired to create some. I have taken a lot of photographs and will see probably sketch some of them. All of the art and architecture over there is just beautiful and I want to try to capture more!

I did have the chance to try a little something in my sketchbook before I left. They aren't that great, but it's something.

Excitement!

Oh My Gosh! Italy is only 4 days away and I can't wait! I have already started packing and am getting some ideas on what to take pictures of! I even cleared out my phone enough so that I now have 3 gigs of data to use!
I'm making sure that I bring a travel journal to take notes in and possibly do some sketching or doodling in. :)

Trying to stay creative!!! But I'm just too excited!

10 Mistakes HS Artists Make: Reflection

Before I even started this reading, I kept thinking to myself, "some of these things are totally going to be me".  When I started reading, the second point that the author makes is something that I do a lot: taking too long to begin. Since I'm such a perfectionist, I always want to make sure that what I'm going to make will be perfect! I think that this summer homework will help me NOT do this. I will try to think of many ideas and put them in my sketchbook.
Another thing that I noticed that I tend to do is continually restarting my work. This sentence from the article it totally me: "Those who take Art are often the perfectionist type, wanting every aspect of their portfolio to be perfect." Sometimes, doing this has worked in my favor, but it does leave me with less time to finish the work. This is diffidently something that I need to improve on for next year, because I will need all of the time I have in order to finish all of my works by their deadlines.
I also use second hand sources a lot to find inspiration. I'm getting better at not copping these images, but I just use them for inspiration. This year I will try to use my own images as inspiration and even my own brain. :)

After reading the article, I can tell that I have seen some people do these things in art classes that I have had in the past. I will be sure to try to avoid doing any of these things in the future, in order to make sure my work is the best that it can be.
